Travel Writing Course

Glasgow
Friday 18th November 2005
From - 9.45 am - 4.30 pm
Course Fee £80.00 (includes lunch)

Tutor, Hugh Taylor, is a Member of the British Guild of Travel Writers, Writers and Photographers Unlimited, The Outdoor Writers Guild and the National Union of Journalists.
He lectured in media studies at Dumfries College.

The course, outlined below, works well as a one day workshop. It's more a nuts and bolts course rather than a 'How to Write Travel Articles' course. He only takes on people who can write already as he teaches how to break into travel using skills journalists have already.

THE COURSE

Researching and writing the successful travel article
  • Analysing the successful writers
  • Studying the market
  • What editors want…and how to produce it
  • Selling that first article
  • Selling the second, third, fourth….
  • How to make a living as a travel writer

    The expanding guide book market
  • What are the outlets?
  • How to break in and stay in
  • What does it pay?
  • How to research structure and write a guide book

    Travel photography
  • The essential camera kit
  • Taking the picture
  • Selling the picture

    Dealing with the travel trade
  • Is there such a thing as a free holiday?
  • If there is…how do I get one please?

If you want to register for the course please email Angela Austin, NUJ Assistant Organiser - angela.nuj@btinternet.com or telephone 0141 944 7031.
