Trinity swings axe at Scottish Daily Mirror
Trinity Mirror has today announced that the Scottish Daily Mirror is no longer to be produced in Scotland, with the loss of a total of 30 editorial jobs.
It is believed that the company will instead produce the paper in London and offer six of the existing staff redeployment to the office there.
The NUJ's Scottish Organiser Paul Holleran said: "This is a huge blow and staff at the titles are shocked and extremely angry.
"This appalling decision highlights how irresponsible the company is and that they cannot be trusted with running our newspapers.
"Trinity Mirror has no respect for or understanding of the importance of maintaining diversity in Scottish newspapers."
The union's General Secretary Jeremy Dear said: "This is a punch in the gut for newspapers in Scotland. We will not stand by and allow Trinity Mirror to dismantle the press in this country, launch attack after attack on quality news and squander their most valuable asset - skilled, committed journalists."
Earlier this week NUJ members at the Daily Record and Sunday Mail - where 16 job losses are planned along with the closure of the papers' Aberdeen Office - voted to ballot for industrial action.
