ADM hails Davie, Marty and Helen
Congratulations to Glasgow branch member, Davie Robertson, who was presented with a Membership of Honour at the Annual Delegates Meeting. Davie, a former Imperial Father and Father of Chapel at the Daily Record, was presented with his award by Harry Conroy. A member of the Glasgow branch and a former NUJ General Secretary and President, Harry travelled to Eastbourne especially to pay tribute to Davie's work.

A posthumous Membership of Honour was also awarded to former Belfast branch secretary, Marty O'Hagan. Marty was murdered by terrorists in September 2001 near his Lurgan home. The NUJ is to mount a campaign to have his killers brought to justice. Marty's family were present to accept his award.

Finally, congratulations to Helen Russell, whose defiance of political censorship at the Wishaw Press earned her the union's gold badge.

What did YOU do at ADM?
They're back! Glasgow's delegates to ADM (aka The Posse) have returned and will be available for your inspection at the branch meeting. Grill them, fry them, check their teeth or just listen to their campfire stories - the choice is yours. They are your delegates to do with as you will.

Spring gone from James's step
Rumour has it that branch member, James Doherty, was still in great discomfort yesterday after an adventurous dance manoeuvre went horribly wrong. Having earned plaudits for sterling work as an Equality Council delegate, James was relaxing with colleagues when catastrophe struck.

An eye witness described the scene: "It was grotesque. He was boogeying with Anita Halpin whose hand and footwork was straight out of the Rocky Horror Show. James must have been either mesmerised or just highly distressed because, for no apparent reason, he launched himself across the floor."

In a move described as combining "the spring of a gazelle with the grace of a penguin" James's ankle gave way "and he landed right on his arse," said the witness.

There were no other reported casualties although Anita was reported to have had grave difficulty in filling her dance card for the rest of the evening.

Audience flees catwalk
Heads were shaking and frowns were deep when branch Chair and outgoing president, Rory McLeod, unveiled his final evening outfit at ADM. A veteran of the punk era, Rory combined a kilt with an Anti Nazi League tee-shirt and six foot long staff in a mock Vivienne Westwood combo.

Troubled onlookers wept when Rory then took the mic to sing Mac the Knife as, thankfully, only he can. One delegate, who asked not to be named, commented, "When you've been through something like that and survived, it makes you stronger."

Going through the change
As agreed, your faithful webmaster (no subservience expected) will soon undertake to modify the Glasgow site to accommodate consistency of design with the NUJ national site. Make the most of the old look while you can for it will soon seem as outmoded as mullets and high-waisters. All classic designs must pass into yesterday.
